Job Title: Professor, Director of the Vanderbilt Stroke Center
Dr. Kirschner served on the faculty of the Department of Neurology at Vanderbilt since 1978, as Assistant Professor, then Associate Professor (1983), then as Professor of Neurology (1987) and Vice Chairman of Neurology (1983). He has also served as the Director of the Vanderbilt Stroke Center since its inception in 1998. He is the division chief for Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology at Vanderbilt and has been involved in clinical research related to acute stroke treatment and secondary stroke prevention for the past 17 years. In addition, he has been involved in research related to the cognitive and behavioral aspects of stroke and of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, and frontotemporal dementia.
