Debbie Hill was a family caregiver for a father who had a stroke. She is currently a healthcare consultant and advisor with over 25 years of experience in healthcare administration and Center of Excellence development. She has worked with health systems, hospitals, physician practices and industry to develop and implement centers of excellence in neuroscience, orthopedics and oncology. Since 2008, her primary focus has been on strategic development of performance-driven neuroscience and stroke centers of excellence in multi-campus, private and academic medical center environments. She has served on The Joint Commission's Disease-Specific Care Advisory Council. She is a fellow of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. She served on the Board of Directors for the American Heart Association's (AHA) Greater Southeast Affiliate where she chaired a 7-state Healthcare Strategic Initiatives Committee focusing on Cardiovascular and Stroke Systems of Care. She currently serves on the American Stroke Association's National Advisory Committee, Stroke Council and the Greater Southeast Affiliate Research Committee.

Job Title: Caregiver/Patient Advocate

I am a patient advisor for the American Heart Association journal Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes. My activities with the journal include editing the Patient or Caregiver Viewpoint section and managing the journal's Twitter account (@CircOutcomes). I am a caregiver for my mother, who has had strokes. My late father also had two major strokes. Members of my family have familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) and I am administrator for an online community of patients with FH and their family members. I am also a patient reviewer in the area of cardiovascular disease for BMJ, and associate editor for the Society for Participatory Medicine newsletter.
